Inspections to Make Before Buying a Used Car

Buying used cars is a great way to get a good vehicle at a steep discount than buying new ones. For many people, buying used allows them to actually be able to afford a new vehicle. However, you have to keep in mind that you are buying a vehicle that has been driven so there is always a chance of wear of tear. That is why it important to do an inspection of the vehicle before buying.

Exterior Checks

Look over the outside of the vehicle for excessive rust, scratches and dents. Make sure the doors close smoothly. Check out that the hood and trunk latch properly and there are no gaps. Also make sure there are no cracks or chips in the glass. You also should check the suspension by bouncing the car at each corner. Finally, check the tires and make sure all the lights work.

Interior Checks

Inside the vehicle, look for any stains and tears in the seats. Check for odors. Make sure the seats all adjust properly. Make sure all the dash lights and other interior lights work. You may also want to check the sound system to make sure all the speaker work.

Performance Checks

Of course, when buying a used car, one of the main things to do is to take a test drive. Doing this allows you to see how it handles, but it also gives you a chance to do additional checks. After test driving, stop and let the car run for a bit to make sure the fan works properly. Check under the hood for oil leaks and signs of worn belts or loose wires. Look at the battery to make sure there is no corrosion.

Doing a complete inspection of used cars is essential to ensuring you will be happy with your purchase. As the dealer, we expect you to look it over because we want you to be satisfied not only when you are on our lot but long after you drive off in your new car.
